He will be with the team as F1 enters a new era of regulations
Alex Albon has signed a new deal with Williams, keeping him at the Grove-based Formula 1 team until at least the end of 2026.
Albon has flourished at Williams since he joined the team for the start of the 2022 F1 season, amassing 27 points last year.
This year Albon has had a more difficult start to the season, with the Williams not quite as competitive as it was last year. But despite that, Albon has still been able to remain in the midfield battle, finishing 11th on two occasions already.
He's also become the clear team leader at the team, with team-mate Logan Sargent rarely having the pace to match, and this deal ensures Williams has stability as it enters a new era of the regulations.
It also showcases just how much confidence Albon has in the team, especially since he has committed so early in the season when there are still several seats available elsewhere on the grid.
In a statement released by Williams, Albon said: "I am incredibly happy to be remaining with Williams Racing and to continue working with such a talented and dedicated team of people.
“It has been a difficult start to the year but since joining Williams we have made significant progress together and I have seen the huge changes happening behind the scenes to take us back to the front of the grid.
“This is a long-term project that I really believe in and want to play a key role in which is why I have signed a multi-year contract.
“The journey will take time but I am confident we are building the right team to move forward and achieve great things in the years to come.”
Williams team principal James Vowles is equally delighted that he's been able to retain his talisman, pointing out that he is very much a major part of Williams' long term future.
"We are delighted to secure Alex's long-term future with Williams Racing," he said.
“He has exceptional talent, technical input and dedication to the cause and this is a huge vote of confidence in Williams and the journey back to competitiveness that we are on.
“Since joining, Alex has consistently demonstrated his ability to perform under pressure, and signing him for the long-term is a big piece of the puzzle of moving us up the grid."
